Bitrate is a budget, not a grade

Bitrate is how much data each second of audio gets. More data can hold more detail โ€” but the detail has to exist in the source first. An MP3 made from a clean studio track at 192 kbps will beat a 320 kbps MP3 made from a phone recording every time.

What the numbers feel like

Around 128 kbps is fine for speech and casual listening. Music with busy highs โ€” cymbals, strings, layered synths โ€” shows compression first; 192-256 kbps is the sweet spot most ears cannot fault on most equipment. Above that, returns shrink fast.

Why source wins

MP3 Downloader takes the best audio track the source serves and encodes it without a second unnecessary squeeze. Judge an MP3 by what it came from, not the number on the tin.
